Abstract

From funding agency initiatives to changes in research and teaching practices, it is becoming widely recognized that computational environments are a key component in the generation of reliable scientific results. In this talk I trace some of the history of Problem Solving Environments (PSEs), motivate a rationale for these changes, and present a set of projections for PSEs as they are becoming standard in the coming years.

Bio

Victoria is an assistant professor of Statistics at Columbia University, and affiliated with the Columbia University Institute for Data Sciences and Engineering. She completed her PhD in statistics and her law degree at Stanford University.

Her research centers on the multifaceted problem of enabling reproducibility in computational science. This includes studying adequacy and robustness in replicated results, designing and implementing validation systems, developing standards of openness for data and code sharing, and resolving legal and policy barriers to disseminating reproducible research.
