Abstract

This presentation will cover the initial building blocks for constructing a basic Hub component. The first session will cover component structure, interacting with the database, including your own styles and scripts, and more. You're expected to have an intermediate understanding of PHP, as well as a familiarity with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Bio

Christopher Smoak is a web and iOS developer for the HUBzero team. He joined HUBzero in June 2010 after graduating from Purdue University in May with a B.S. in Computer Graphics Technology and Certificate of Entrepreneurship. With over 5 years of web development experience, Christopher's knowledge of design, development, and accessibility contribute to producing the HUBzero Platform for Scientific Collaboration. He also recently completed and submitted his first iOS app for nanoHUB.org, which is now available on the Apple App Store!

Sam is a Software Engineer for HUBzero. He enjoys developing web components for the core HUBzero library with a specific focus on creating highly interactive user interfaces. He's also working on ways to improve development and deployment issues within the HUBzero environment, including database migrations, unit testing, and more. Sam received his BS in Management with a focus in Management Information Systems from Purdue University and is working on his MS in Computer and Information Technology.
