Biography
Ms. Soares is the Assistant Director of the UC Davis Biorepositories Core Resource (BCR). The BCR is meant to develop, implement and sustain a distributed research infrastructure to facilitate resourceful biospecimen management at UC Davis.
She has over 25 years’ experience coordinating oncology-related research projects including oversight of grants management, clinical trials and human tissue biobanking. She received her B.S. from California Status University, Sacramento and an M.S. in Health Informatics from the University of California, Davis. Over the years, she has designed databases for a variety of biospecimen projects and programs including the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Biorepository shared resource, the UC Davis Prostate Cancer Program (PO1), local cohort studies for the University of California-wide Athena Breast Health Network, and the GU-Prostate/Bladder Initiative. She designed and implemented a novel integration between the UC Davis Health System EPIC EMR and the Department of Pathology’s LIS system that allowed healthcare personnel to electronically order research-specific blood.
Ms. Soares has been a SoCRA member since 1999, an International Society of Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) member since 2012 and a member of UC BRAID (University of California Biomedical Research Acceleration, Integration, and Development) consortium since 2013. She has 8 peer-reviewed publications and was an invited speaker at the 2014 Leaders in Biobanking Congress in Seattle, WA.
