Purdue University Research Computing is currently working on a NSF (National Science Foundation) Grant that will further the science in GEOLocating. This grant will allow Open Source developers to build maps using Open Source Tiling Technologies such as Open Source. For more information see our page.
Conclusions
GEO Location and technologies like waze have really just taken off. The sky really is the limit. We expect to see a wide range of applications and technologies to leverage the waze technology over the next few years. Adoption of these technologies or critical mass is still in the infant stages. There are a lot of privacy and security issues to consider before this technology can go mainstream. At some point we will be all be “geo located” one way or another.
