Today's demonstration: "HTML5 Online Presentation" by Chris Smoak
The HUBzero platform currently uses Macromedia Breeze® to deliver online presentations in Flash®. The current solution has many issues, mainly these presentations cannot be viewed on any iOS device as they do not support Flash. Also, creating these Breeze® presentations is a rather painstaking process and can only be done via PC running Windows.
With the new HTML5 replacement, online presentations can be viewed on any internet connected device and creating these presentations is a breeze (no pun intended). Simply upload the media files(either video or audio), a folder with the slides in image format, and a specially formatted xml that defines the presentation. That's it. The application does the rest of the work, now your presentation is ready for the world to watch.
The video and audio is delivered to the user directly in the browser using the new HTML5 spec. Since not all browsers support this spec yet, we have a Flash® fallback solutions implemented. We believe this replacement solution will make online presentations much easier not only create but use.
