When invoking the workspace tool, under what circumstances can the 500 – No such session : 0 error be thrown?

I have HUBzero running under VMWare on my MacBook Pro for demonstration purposes. I have successfully launched the workspace tool on many occasions. Now, however, I am seeing the 500 – No such session : 0 error when I try to invoke the tool as the user I typically use and as a new user I have created. I have verified the the IP address for hub001.hubzero.org is correct in /etc/hosts and that the owner of /var/log/mw and /var/log/mw/sessions is www-data. I have also verified that the maxwell service is running. So, the question is: what can cause this error?

I believe that this error only shows up when the session id given does not correspond with any found in the middleware database. This usually indicates that the system was unable to create a container for the session or the one that did exist has been removed for some reason.

I had a similar problem with an open source installation and tried “update display set status=‘absent’;” but I’ still getting the same error. Also, the service.log says “Unable to setup user ‘mourad’ in session 157”

Any idea how to fix this as now I’m not able to run any tool.

In the HUb-from-scratch 1.0 it can happen simply because a user has exceeded their storage quota. If you look at /var/log/hubzero/service.log and you see the entry “Unable to setup user X in session Y” that tells you that /usr/lib/hubzero/maxwell_service was unable to create the directory to run the session in.
