skip tools installation
Initially I would like to use hubzero only as a community driven knowledgebase with user support, forums etc. but I won’t need the tools functionality.
Can I skip the installation/configuration of some of the modules, and which?
Will that affect the overall functionality of the platform?
Can I easily add them later?
Thank you for sharing all the great work you’ve done on the platform!

I’m assuming that you are referring to the installation guide located here:
http://hubzero.org/documentation/0.9.0/installation
I don’t believe that you would need to do any steps after the CMS installation and setup. And for the most part I’m pretty sure you could just complete the remaining steps at a later time but this will require extra work. There are initialization steps that may have to be done for each user.
