create simple tool; install Python module

Warning: newbie here… I’m trying to understand the basic design/operation of HUBzero and would like to know how to create/expose a simple (non-GUI) “tool” in my Workspace. For example, how would one create a simple executable program (e.g. “helloHUB”) and make it available in the color xterm “tool” in a Workspace?

Beyond this simple example, how could one install a 3rd party Python module and make it available?

This question would seem to be similar to the one at https://hubzero.org/answers/question/36 , but some of the information there seems dead/out of date.

Fwiw, I’m using the hubzerovm-1.2

thanks!

I’m not an expert, but from my experience you would not be able to install a non-GUI tool that all users have access to in their xterm workspace. You could have the source code available for checkout through subversion, and have users check it out (using their color xterm). If you look at this help ticket there might be some information for you https://hubzero.org/support/ticket/3063.
