   I do suffer similar issue:

   As hub user:
   After creating an user group get 404 error when trying to access the group page.
   No groups listed by “Browse the list of available groups”, although created
   However the presence of available GroupName is correctly checked

   Creating groups as hub administrator (from the joomla panel)
   – Groups seems to be created: always as “System” Type (no matter which type is selected)
   – Unable to “Approve” group. The status does not change althought confirmation “Group has been Approved” is displayed
   – Unable to delete group:
   

   Fatal error: Cannot access property Hubzero_Group::$access in /var/www/dsod/libraries/Hubzero/Group.php on line 952
   

   I do suffer from these problems since I’m not able to create the “apps” group and manage the tool submission administration.

   It looks like this particular problem was solved for groups, But I get this exact error when I “add a Project: for a group.

   As observed below, the project is created with type system as default and even though it is approved it never sets the setup field or add any members to the project. It is not able to add any group members automatically to the project either. It allows us to add the members but then when you save the project and continue we get

   “Fatal error: Cannot access property Hubzero_Group:$access in /var/www/example/libraries/Hubzero/Group.php on line 965”

   This happened after the updates were applied (hubzero-cms build 20130219)

   I had all of the same problems, first unable to approve groups and then fatal project creation errors. But a recent update seems to have solved all problems. If you still have these problems try updating the CMS…

   $ apt-get update
   $ apt-get install hubzero-cms
   $ hzcms update
