I have a list of items (classifications) in their own table in the database. Each has its own ID. The item names are in two columns, however – each entry has the structure: class parent child id where the item name is “parent child”. I want to create an extension of the tagsHandler which would allow me to use the tag editor plugin to query this table, get the “parent child” terms and return all this in a neat package that is similar to but separate from the tag field.

First, I’m not sure where to start with this – I am inseting this field in the compose portion of the form – should I code all this there? And where do I go from there? I can declare the extension (on one end) and load the editor (on the other end) but I can’t get the editor to pull from this table that I want to pull from.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that my list of items, though static, contains about 9 Million entries.
