Hi Michael,
In terms of web development, changes to the filesystem, replaced constants, and library replacements can be found in the Upgrade Guide in the web development documentation.
Installing the component can be done via a migration once it is placed in the appropriate place in the filesystem. The addComponentEntry() method will allow the CMS to register the component.
